Shanghai Masters Golf Results: First Round

Rory McIlroy finished the first round of the Shanghai Masters heading the leaderboard after an 8 under 64 on the par 72 Lake Malaren golf course. McIlroy's card included 8 birdies (5 on the back 9) and no bogeys, giving him a one shot lead over the rest of the field. View the Shanghai Masters leaderboard after the first round here.

The Shanghai Masters is a new golf tournament and isn't part of the major PGA Tours but the $2,000,000 winner's prize money and the opportunity to further promote themselves in China has been enough to attract some of the world's most talented players including; Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Hunter Mahan, Ian Poulter, Keegan Bradley and Paul Casey. Because the Shanghai Masters isn't a sanctioned event there are no world ranking points available and the prize money won't affect players standings in the FedExCup or the Race to Dubai rankings.

Seven birdies was enough to secure second place for Hunter Mahan after the first round of play.

Winner of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, Keegan Bradley finished at even par with a round of 72 and winner of The Masters 2011 and PGA Grand Slam of Golf runner up Charl Schwartzel finished at 2 under par with a round of 70.
