The Open de Espana purse was €2,000,000 for the 2016 tournament at Real Club Valderrama in San Roque, Andalucía, Spain. The winner of the 2016 Open de Espana, Andrew Johnston, received the 1st prize payout of €333,330 and 333,330 Race to Dubai points.

In second place, Joost Luiten collected €222,220 prize money, while Sergio Garcia's third place finish earned him €125,200 prize winnings. Soren Kjeldsen and James Morrison tied 4th place for a €92,400 share of the prize fund each and Martin Kaymer, Ross Fisher, Alexander Noren and Michael Lorenzo-Vera shared 6th place for €56,200 payouts.

The prize fund at the Open de Espana increased by €500,000 compared to the 2015 tournament. The winner’s payout also increased by €83,330, last year’s winner and defending champion, James Morrison collected the winner’s check of €250,000.
